| Finally the web site is up and running! It was a long road of avoidance and outright fear of html. The driver who eventually delivered me to my destination was my husband, Jon Foster, who managed to uncrumple the map and navigate around the potholes. If there are any problems with the site, I will gleefully pass them along to him.
Onto what is currently going on or is soon to be: 55 MERCER GALLERY (55 Mercer Street, New York, New York 10013 Tel: 212.226.8513) is the venue for a group show called "Quoi Que Nous Soyons" with works created by Daniel Heyman, Don Schule and myself. We three first met last Spring as faculty at the Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art. This exhibition (conceived and arranged by Daniel) runs from October 31 - November 25, 2006 with a reception on November 4 from 6-8pm. Please come by if you happen to be in New York City. After years of doing two-dimensional illustration, I've decided to push toward my deeper passion of making sculpted pieces for the world outside my studio. I'm delighted that two of my submissions were accepted for the "Third Biennial Dimensional Salon" at The Society of Illustrators. The show is open to the public from December 6 - 29, 2006. I'm incredibly happy to be part of this event and am eager to see everyone's actual pieces in addition to how they appear in the catalog. If you're at all interested in narrative 3D work, stop by the SI gallery located at 128 East 63rd Street (between Park and Lexington Avenues) in New York, NY 10021-7303 Tel: (212) 838-2560. Driven by the same impulse to make my 3D more visible, I submitted work to the "Spectrum 13 The Best of Contemporary Fantastic Art" competition. I'm tickled that they selected one piece for this year's book. I'm always honored to be part of this outstanding anthology, a place where Jon's artwork has had a strong presence over the years. For more info about Spectrum, related events, publications and art submission guidelines, go to http://www.spectrumfantasticart.com/index.html Looking toward 2007, I have been invited to return to the Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art as a visiting artist during the Spring semester after wrapping up my RISD Wintersession course. PSCA offers an intensive studio experience, allowing for individualized guidance at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. More information about their programs can be found at www.pontavensa.org should you be interested in studying art in Brittany. The academic schedule includes travel to other European cities but I must admit that I love being in the region itself. Whether walking around town or working in the school's new studio building, I'm absolutely captivated by the richness of Breton culture and its translation into my sketchbooks and projects. Speaking of Pont Aven, I will be exhibiting at the Centre International d’Art Contemporain during my upcoming stay there. Although I don't know the exact dates, it will happen sometime in March and April. The specifics will be posted once I have them. Before signing off, let me once again thank Jon for his tremendous effort in actualizing my long abandonned internet-intentions. He planned, scanned and posted everything for me despite having a very heavy workload of his own. Just a few days ago, we received an advance copy of r/evolution, a book of Jon's published and personal art. It's fantastic, really. Should you believe my rosy endorsement is simply that of a proud wife (& grateful recipient of an overdue website), please check out www.jonfoster.com for a peek at Jon's work. After nearly two decades together, I'm still inspired by him and all he does. |
